Mahatma Gandhi is a man who needs no introduction.

A global icon, regarded as the Father of the Nation (India), is one of the most respected men to ever walk the earth. The knowledge and wisdom he shared with us is still changing lives 73 years after his passing.

Here are 3 of his most important teachings that are still relevant in our world.

You Must Be The Change You Wish To See In The World

An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind. Gandhi once said:

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

Forgiveness can be a monstrous challenge. There have been times for all of us when we’ve not forgiven someone for weeks, months, or even years. I’m sure a few things spring to mind…

But holding on to those grudges is mentally draining and a massive waste of your precious energy and finite mental capacity.

Forgiving people will not make you weak, as Gandhi said, but empowers you to rise above the situation and free yourself. No longer will you tie yourself down with the burden of betrayal.

Have the power within yourself to stay strong, rise above and move on.

What You Think, You Become

Modern studies prove that our thoughts have more control over our psyche and self-image than we first thought. This lesson from Gandhi is more relevant today than ever before.

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,

Your thoughts become your words,

Your words become your actions,

Your actions become your habits,

Your habits become your values,

Your values become your destiny.”

― Gandhi

Live As If You Were To Die Tomorrow

Learn as if you were to live forever.

There are hundreds of millions of people that live to exist. Their weeks are the same every single week. The Monday-Friday job, a night out at the weekend or playing the same golf course and having some beers afterwards.

They do that for 30 years straight. Then they get to their deathbed full of regret, wishing they had lived a life true to themselves.

They forgot to LIVE.

Living is the enjoyment of the little things. It’s spending time with loved ones. It’s selflessly helping others. When you live, every breath counts.

Make the changes in your life to go from existing to living.
